Locandina Open Day INGV 16 dicembre

From Bologna to Rome and Catania, on Saturday, December 16, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology will open its doors for National Space Day, established in 2021 to commemorate the launch of San Marco 1, the first Italian satellite to enter orbit that allowed Italy to compete in the space sector.

Sponsored by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the event will allow visitors to gain firsthand insight into how space science and technology are daily contributing to improving the quality of human life on the planet and managing complex and topical phenomena, such as climate change.

A series of seminars are scheduled at the Rome headquarters to discuss space and developments in this field. In addition, projection rooms will be arranged with thematic videos and installations dedicated to the Earth and the activities of INGV's Earth Space Observation Center. Meanwhile, children will have interactive games divided by age group. In addition, the event will include a theatrical performance, "Upside Down," a direct link between space and art.

The Bologna venue will host a panel discussion, "Earth Watching Space - Space Watching Earth: from Earth Movements to Space Crowding," featuring researchers from INGV and the National Institute for Astrophysics. The discussion will also feature public involvement and focus on current scientific topics such as meteorite observation and artificial satellites.

Finally, the Etnean Observatory in Catania will offer a similar program to the one in Rome with educational seminars, screenings, dedicated installations, and workshops for children. In addition, visits to the Observatory's operating rooms will be arranged, allowing citizens to learn more about the functioning of seismic and volcanological monitoring in the Sicilian territory.

The Day is an excellent opportunity to get closer to the world of space and understand a new point of view and the opportunities it offers for future generations.

The entire program of the event is available on the INGV website at the following link.
