L'attimo decisivo at “Lucca Comics and Games 2024”
From October 30 to November 3, several events dedicated to the comic strip and the I don't take risks campaign
After the successful debut last year, where thousands of visitors flocked to the dedicated spaces for the L'attimo decisivo comic strip, and the I don't take risks campaign, the Department of Civil Protection is returning to "Lucca Comics and Games" to present "La virgola," the latest issue of the comic strip series set in the Phlegraean Fields.
From October 30 to November 3, Lucca's historic center will have events for families, children, and comic fans. These events aim to introduce the themes of prevention and good civil protection practices in an engaging and fun way.
The events
In Piazza Napoleone, in the exhibition area dedicated to the leading publishers of the Italian comics scene, it will be possible to visit the booth dedicated to L'attimo decisivo and receive two comic issues for free.
The Real Collegio will host activities for younger people during the festival. On the opening day, students from the I.C. "Carlo Piaggia" of Capannori will participate in L'attimo decisivo workshops and quizzes to test their knowledge of comics. Children aged 8 and up can join sessions dedicated to "Fai la tua scelta - Make your choice," a new card game inspired by the comic strip. The game will have its national premiere at Lucca Comics. The game sessions are free and available throughout the event, but reservations are required through a dedicated platform.
The Real Collegio will also host "Sisma VR," the immersive technology project of the volunteer association LARES Italia. This project will allow visitors to realistically experience the effects of an earthquake and understand the correct behaviors to adopt during one.
At the Giardino degli Osservanti, civil protection volunteers from the Region of Toscana will be available at an information point. They will provide adults and children with information on actively contributing to risk reduction and offer themed games for fun.
Also linked to L'attimo decisivo are other important events that will enliven the days of Lucca Comics.
Scheduled appointments
On Thursday, October 31, at 10 a.m., the official "La virgola" presentation will occur at the Sala Tobino of the Palazzo Ducale. Local institutions will attend the event, including representatives of the Civil Protection Department, the Regions of Toscana and Campania, creators of the comic strip, cartoonist Mattia Surroz, and screenwriter Roberto Gagnor. The audience will include students from the I.C. "Carlo Piaggia" of Capannori, representing secondary school students in Italy. These students received "La virgola" earlier this month and studied civil protection issues in their classes. The event will be streamed live on the I don't take risks website and Facebook page.
On Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2, at 10 a.m., the workshop "How to understand hydraulic risk with building bricks" is scheduled at the Real Collegio, curated by LARES Italia in collaboration with the Spatial Data Laboratory of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Florence.
On the same days, Roberto Gagnor and Mattia Surroz will be featured in the children's workshop "How a comic book is born" at 3 p.m. at the Real Collegio. Afterward, at 4:30 p.m., they will be at the L'attimo decisivo booth for a long-awaited book signing event.
The workshop with the authors will also require mandatory reservations through a dedicated platform. The detailed schedule of events is available in the attachment.
